Why I’m incredibly excited for summer

Image
“Summertime, and the living’s easy...” This looks like it’ll be our last below-freezing day!!! (We might have some lows below freezing but we should be asleep for those.) I hope! And March is almost over! Spring is finally here, and it’s beautiful. Soon, we will have those Windows XP days (I’m such a nerd lol) in which the sky will be pure blue and interspersed with those beautiful puffy white clouds, and all the grass will be green. On the warmer days, I love going to the park and watching people fly their kites in the allergy-filled winds. I also love the smell of BBQs and the outdoors. I love watching the world come back to life. But even more than that, I am so excited for summer. And here are the reasons why. Free time Seriously. In the summer, there is no sense of “man, I really ought to be doing homework right now.” Well, there is a little bit of it, but there is so much less stress. You still get stuff done, but without the stress of grades or a million looming deadlines. Theme...

Random inspirational song quote for today...

"I'm always in the top s*** Box seats b****, f*** the gossip How many of them could've did it with finesse? Now everybody like, 'she really is the best'" -- Nicki Minaj, Chun-Li Be at the top. Be the best. Never accept anything less than that. That's the goal.

Amusement and Airtime is now up-to-date!

Well, mostly. My theme park blog, Amusement and Airtime , is finally current. I fast forwarded it by realizing that trying to do an in-depth trip report for every park I visited in 2020 would be a bit much, so I just did a super quick update with everything I missed. I'm hoping I'll be much more diligent in this 2021 season.

You know you're a computer science major when...

Renderman for Houdini issue...FIXED!

Image
Man, it has been a rough couple of weeks. It all came to a head this evening, when I couldn't listen to an audio text from a friend of mine because my phone is broken, so I tried installing my sim card on the phone my uncle let me use, but after hours of messing with it, it wouldn't restore from my backup because the borrowed phone has too little available storage space, which meant I would lose my contacts and a buttload of data. So, I said screw it, who needs 500 dollars, and bought a new iPhone from Best Buy. I will be picking it up tomorrow. And after all that, I still can't hear the text. And I'm behind on my homework again. Sounds silly; sounds small, and in some ways it is, but I am positively fried. Andrew can vouch for me -- I was extremely close  to screaming my head off. :') Normally I'd be yearning for a theme park trip during a time such as this, and indeed I'm excited for Lagoon this weekend -- but really I lowkey need a slow-paced summer vaca...

Tech Support Tuesday: How to fix OpenVPN not connecting on Windows 10 with "ovpnagent: requesterror"

Image
So I spent an entire week, on and off, trying to fix an odd issue with OpenVPN. It was working just fine, allowing me access to the animlic license server so I could use Houdini FX (which itself is having issues working with Renderman), until one lovely Sunday morning when it asked me to do an update. I did, and it immediately started giving me this error:   Rude.  Additionally, Device Manager wasn't happy:  And the icing on the cake? I seem to have lost the screenshot, but the TAP adapter (basically the driver that runs OpenVPN) wasn't showing up on my Network Connections menu. I could only see a) my Ethernet connection, and b) my WiFi adapter.  SIDE NOTE (you can skip this paragraph): Incidentally, I couldn't see any of my VMWare virtual network adapters, either, and I suspected it was related to a bug on my machine in which I couldn't create any bridged connections in VMWare. This meant that my basic nmap scans in my Kali VM weren't showing jack and therefore...

Today's random inspirational song quote

"I'm a driver, I'm a winner, Things are gonna change, I can feel it."  - Beck, “Loser”

If it's a non-smoking apartment, then DON'T SMOKE!

I'm asthmatic. So obviously I'm going to sign up for an apartment where smoking isn't allowed, like my current complex. It seems to have done nothing to stop the people living below me from smoking all the time. Now, I believe in letting people make their own choices. I'm not on a moral crusade against anything, nor am I trying to outlaw anything. I don't care what other people do or partake in, so long as it isn't harming others. I just want to be able to breathe normal, clean air when I signed up for an apartment complex that does not allow smoking. When you specifically sign up for an apartment contract for a private business that explicitly says "we are a smoke-free environment", and then you smoke and fill my bedroom with it and make me cough, that is not okay. It is harming others, because it's secondhand smoke.  I'm currently blasting two fans and periodically spraying air freshener. The weed smell is super strong. Also wearing my thicke...

Song: "Listen to the Rain" by Evanescence

Image
Why on earth did Blogger remove the links to interests/shows/etc. on my profile page? This is lame. I liked clicking on them to find other blogs that discussed topics relating to said interests.  Anyway.  I started off this blog talking about music, and now I finally feel like talking about it again. :P  This song has been on my mind a lot lately, because rainy season is almost upon us. While early- and mid-spring days filled with rain and clouds can be depressing at times, ultimately they are a beautiful thing. They are a sign that late spring and early summer will be filled with color, life, and light. We can't have the lovely green foliage of summer without some good rain, and I say this as someone who strongly prefers sunshine and warmth. Additionally, walking in the rain is way more fun than walking in the snow.  Speaking of which, I am in need of rain boots and better windshield wipers. But right now the weather keeps dipping in and out of snow, as March is won...

Oh hi, March

Image
“March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.”  March this year really did start like a lion, blindingly sunny and bright, with a freezing breeze racing through Orem and Vineyard. I cannot even begin to describe how happy I am that this month is here. Winter is almost completely over! Bring on spring and sun! And Lagoon opens in 17 days! Although it was warm and sunny enough to take off my hoodie on my 3:00 walk today, with only a tiny breeze. I walked around the park with just short sleeves and jeans, hoodie slung over my shoulder. It won’t be long until jackets are a distant memory! Summer is coming in hot. Now, just got to pound out as much productive work as possible before May arrives! Oh and I worked on my novel for a brief spell this evening (around 5 PM, so it was a bit cooler than 3 PM) while sitting outside on a picnic bench, in jeans and a hoodie. YES! I will conclude this post with a nasty picture of my computer, which is in definite need of a wipe-down:  ...
