The problem with my apartment's pool (and small apartment pools in general)
I love my apartment complex. It also has a pretty decent pool. It is very aesthetic and I love the colors. While unemployed last summer, I swam almost every morning in that pool at around 9-9:15 AM. Sometimes I would work out, other times simply float and be a kid again.
However, there are two problems with this pool. One, it doesn't open until 9 AM every morning, which is when I need to start working now that I have an internship. And two, it is very small.
And so whenever I try to go swimming there, there are always parents and kids, or random groups of teenagers or college kids, swimming. I can't go to the one lap lane to work out, because there's no dividing line for it, so the kids are just playing in it. Even though it's a pool for everyone in the complex, it feels SUPER AWKWARD to go over there, whether it be families with kids or groups of college students, when all I want to do is go for a quick swim. (Seriously, I only need 10 minutes, I just want to get in that lovely, cool water after a hot day...I need it!) It feels like I'm intruding on a private party filled solely with people who already know each other, and me being the one stranger would look odd.
I would've gone to SCERA today (which is less awkward because it's bigger, basically a little water park, doesn't feel like you're intruding on a private gathering), but I couldn't, because they randomly decided to redo our parking lot (even though there was nothing wrong with it) and everyone had to park in the 7-11. I feared losing my spot, so I couldn't go to SCERA before it closed at 6 PM (and WHY must it do that? It used to close at 7! That was SO MUCH BETTER!). So, I tried to go to my apartment's pool for a quick swim at 5:30 -- nope, it was filled with a huge family and a bunch of kids. I went back at 7:30, and lo and behold. They were all still there. My last chance is at 8:30. If that doesn't work out, I've spent the entire evening in a swimsuit and sunscreen for absolutely no reason. Fantastic stuff.
