Designing an entire virtual theme park resort.
It will likely take 10 years minimum, but it'll happen and it'll get completed, unless I die in some sort of horrible accident first lol. And maybe, just maybe, the virtual completion will be enough to spur the development of the real thing. Even if not, designing my own virtual theme park resort will be an incredible achievement.
An entire theme park resort based on the fantasy world that I have built ever since I was a kid (and am currently exploring through game design, digital art, novels, and eventually webcomics and visual novels), in order to express my vision of what I wish this world could be.
It will also incorporate every single one of my pursuits.
- Computer science: holographic projection, some sort of queueing algorithm, and either C# or C++ code depending on whether I decide to use Unity or Unreal. It'll probably be in Unity. Computer science will be the core behind getting this thing up and running.
- Computer graphics: Since it'll be a virtual resort built in a game engine, computer graphics knowledge will be essential. Also, it'll be awesome if I have actual playable games in the arcades. I could embed some of my games that I make separately into the arcades!
- Control systems: Once I start studying EE and control, I'll be able to have interactive diagrams (or something) that show how each ride's control system works. I will probably find some way to incorporate embedded systems, i.e. creating a physical business card with a park map, plus a digital equivalent of it.
- Cybersecurity: PLC security will be demonstrated with each control system. Security of whatever web app, desktop app, and mobile app I'll be using to display this will also be important.
- Digital art: The theme park will need to look beautiful from all angles. Digital art knowledge and skill will be essential.
- Creative writing: Each ride will have a story, and each will somehow be connected to the books I write. Short stories or even full novels could be embedded into some of the attractions, for the visitors/players that are sufficiently detail-oriented.
- Fitness: My resort will have an entire running path going through it, as well as very nice gyms for lifting in the hotels.
- Music: The rides and attractions will have various songs playing in them, to add to the atmosphere and ambiance. This means that I will likely have to delve at least somewhat into music production eventually, instead of just showing up to choir/band and practicing my clarinet and piano.
Visiting lots of theme parks will also give me plenty of ideas for this crazy resort. So I have a built-in excuse to keep going to my water parks and Lagoon all the time. :p
I might have to have some sort of baseline knowledge of other engineering fields if I want the coasters to be fully accurate, which may be sketchy, as I wasn't planning on delving super far into those in general. But, it's possible that I can just approximate it using higher-level math, and focus my detailed demos on the control systems instead. We'll see. This is a great idea for a magnum opus, though, and I can throw this up on my website once it's finished.
