How to ride everything at Lagoon in one day...a WIP
(Minus the kiddie rides that you wouldn't fit in)
I am still trying to figure this out, actually. Especially if you want to ride some things twice, this becomes hard to do. But even if you ride everything just once, it's tricky.
Especially because I also like to get food, look at the shops, and walk around Pioneer Village for a bit.
Yesterday, I missed the 3 serpentine slides, the dry-side water rides (Log Ride and Rattlesnake Rapids), plus maybe 5-8 flats that I wanted to do (I blew off a few in favor of a few coaster rerides at the end of the night) but overall, I did a TON of stuff. I even walked the Lagoon Trail a bit beforehand, and still made rope drop. I am refining my strategy.
I did do the following:
- Rode 27 rides.
- Did 3 rerides (Cannibal, Roller Coaster, and Tidal Wave because it was the last one to close) which brings the true total experiences up to 30
- Walked 1.5 miles of the Lagoon Trail
- Went swimming in the Blue Lagoon at Lagoon-a-Beach
- Drew in my sketchbook at Pioneer Village
- Went shopping 3 times
- Got food 2 times and dessert once
- Woke up at 5 AM so I could do a workout first, and a little bit of art before leaving
- Arrived 10 minutes before rope drop
- Got one of the closest parking spots to the gate (though not quite close enough)
- Took lots of pictures
- Took 2 showers (one just to rinse off my head after walking the Lagoon Trail before opening, then one full one after Lagoon-a-Beach)
- Read Catch the Lightning and Astral Dynamics when in line (switched to Astral Dynamics whenever Catch the Lightning started to get too steamy lol, just in case anyone was shoulder surfing)
Making rope drop is imperative, as is joining the mad, sweaty stampede to Cannibal at exactly 10:00 AM. I try to do all of the roller coasters before like 11:30 AM, plus Samurai and both sides of Rocket, but I actually didn't quite do it. Despite getting on the first few rides super quickly, I still didn't get in Bat and Bombora before eating lunch at 11:50 AM. And yeah starting lunch before noon is imperative too.
It also sucks because Lagoon is starting to close up 15 minutes before actual closing. So the days of getting in line for Terrorride right before it closes, to leave the park at 11:30 PM or 11:45 PM instead of 11 PM, are over. Plus it closes at 9 now during the week, and only 10 on weekends. Kinda sucks; summer nights at Lagoon are beautiful. When everything starts to cool down, and I'm freshly showered after staying at Lagoon-a-Beach until closing, and most of the crowds have left. Then suddenly the lines become almost as fast as they were at 10 AM. Knowing that I'll be asleep in a few hours anyway gives me a second wind; after riding roller coasters for 10 hours straight I suddenly have newfound energy. And the lights and the breeze and -- it is just beautiful.
I might do another all-day at Lagoon, so I can stay until at least 10 PM -- but it has to be in the summer, and I have to make a ton of progress on my personal work before I can go. If I don't, I am going to be running into some serious issues.
The smartest decision I think I made was treating Rocket and Samurai as roller coasters, and doing them before 10:30 AM. Those become a HUGE time sink later in the day.
I will figure out how to do all of the attractions in one day, though. The biggest bottleneck was queueing up for the Log Ride until realizing how slow it was moving, then exiting the queue early to go to Lagoon-a-Beach instead. I would've probably gotten one Serpentine Slide done if I hadn't wasted 15 minutes doing that and grabbing a locker for it, then changing my mind and heading to my car to grab my swimsuit.
I also need more sports bag organization, and a packing list, so I'm not rummaging around for crap.
The Serpentine Slides have had horrendous operations this entire season. I've never waited less than 30 minutes for one, which means that trying to do all 3 is a minimum 90-minute investment.
I really want to walk all the way to Farmington Pond before starting up at Lagoon, too. It's a nice walk, if a bit hot.
Trying to fit in as much as I can, in one day, is a game for me. It's fun, and I like seeing if I can do even more the next time.
