If I could redo college...

Even though I'm sick of homework, etc., I often wish I could redo undergrad, with the knowledge I have now (i.e., not a terrified 18-year-old kid and then a slightly less terrified but clueless 21 year old after my mission). Technically I can, but I don't want to think about that right now, especially since I'm currently doing a master's -- so the point is fairly moot.

I keep thinking, I could've done the CompTIA trifecta during one summer. I could've majored in computer engineering instead of computer science, so I wouldn't be quite as cut off from roller coaster engineering jobs and still learned app/game development (though I can still work at certain companies with a CS degree + PLC certifications). I could've worked more hours and managed my time a lot better with the skills I have now, and maybe even pulled off a 3.9 to 4.0 GPA. Additionally, I could've still minored in Animation or Digital Art or Illustration and I would've very likely gotten the same awesome job I currently have at DreamWorks. I would've also focused a lot more on nailing drawing and painting fundamentals so I could become an established artist while still in undergrad. I could've gone to U of U instead of BYU, etc. and not had to deal with the HCO, ecclesiastical endorsements, and such. Actually U of U also has a pretty good creative writing minor, so I could've done that, and worked towards finishing one novel per year. They seem to be a lot nicer about multiple majors and minors than BYU was.

I probably would've done this: Majored in Computer Engineering with minors in Animation (or Digital Illustration) and Creative Writing. I would've considered a third minor as well relating to Cybersecurity, and worked on certs every summer. I would've played in band every possible semester. And I would've tried way harder to get a 3.9 or higher. Yes, companies don't care, but I tried so hard to get the highest GPA I possibly could at BYU and I fell short. I am pretty dang sure that with my current organizational skills, while imperfect, I could've done it. Then I could've gotten my master's in game development.

In the end, what I did / am doing is fairly close. Majored in Computer Science with an emphasis in Animation, and minored in Creative Writing and Mathematics (the latter being because there was no computer engineering minor at BYU). Getting a master's in Computer Science which focuses on graphics. GPA was only 3.62 in undergrad, but I did get 3.98 for my master's. Doing the PLC Dojo, working towards some IT and cybersecurity certs, and finally trying to become an artist and writer now, because better late than never. And trying to play music when I can. I'm sort of doing everything I wanted to, just in a fictional class system (as in, pretending I'm in an art class and other classes with weekly assignments even though I'm not), and way later in life than I was hoping.

I'm fascinated with the idea of reality shifting or time travel and going back to the age of 21 with my same brain. I would do over so many things. Even so, I guess I'm in a pretty good place now. I got close to my goal, and I will still get to the same end place. Just got to keep moving forward with what I've got.
