2025 NYR: First check-in

It's a bit early, but let's evaluate how the New Year's Resolutions are going. Mainly, I resolved to follow my daily practice blocks and go well beyond the 2-minute rule whenever possible (i.e. it needs to be the default -- 2-minute rule by itself should only apply on really tight days or true vacation days where I'm doing something like an all-day hike). Additionally, I constructed a list of deliverables to be completed (ex: all of Khan Academy math and physics, new demo reel, etc.). And finally, I'd like to start monetizing my projects.

Resolutions:

  • Hit all daily blocks beyond the 2-minute rule as a default.
    • (Hit time targets)
  • Complete the deliverable list that I have on Notion.
  • Start monetizing my projects, and get an LLC underway.
  • Make at least 130K.

It's been a weird week. I have had to work from 7 AM to 3 PM since I'm in California and I haven't been able to get up at 4 AM because me using the weight set would wake up my parents.

This means all workouts have to be pushed to after work, which sucks an insane amount.

Additionally, I don't really accomplish anything during my midmorning break or lunch break. Lunch is mostly spent driving home, eating, then going right back. I haven't had the midmorning break at all. It feels weird to take it at the office.

I miss DreamWorks.

As such, it has been harder to achieve my daily blocks. So no, I haven't gotten that down yet. Music, however, is going well, mainly because I've been tracking my practice using the Tonic app. That app sucks and constantly automatically ends my practice sessions early, so I have to start a new session, and then I have to play for at least 5 additional minutes for it to count. It's very annoying. But apparently it is working so I will just have to stick with it. I also had a ton of free time last week due to not working and accidentally practiced myself into a very competitive league.

So, I haven't gotten on track yet other than music, but like I said, it's early. I have at least been hitting my MVP each day. Putting Scrivener on my phone so I can write on the go was one of the best ideas I've had.

My ideal targets would be something like:

  • 45-75 minutes art
  • 10 minutes reading
  • 30 minutes writing
  • 30 minutes music
  • 30 minutes game dev and 30 minutes gaming
  • Engineering and coding would be variable, but I need to start accomplishing stuff, so 20 minutes of each minimum would be good. Language study would only be 15 minutes a day max.
And that cannot mess with my fitness program.
