Relationship ended with Tonic. Hello again, Andante.

After a streak of over 60 days with Ray Chen's Tonic music app...I just can't do it anymore.  It sucks. It's so buggy that it's basically unusable. I'm not sure how it has so many positive reviews on the App Store.  It freezes, it ends practice sessions early by itself every single day when only 5-6 minutes in , it randomly decides I'm "taking a break", it randomly deletes all of my progress. I do not know who coded this, but it is a complete abomination.  I REALLY like the leagues and practice bonuses because they would push me to practice more, but at least Andante has streaks. So it's back to the bare-bones app I guess.  I gave up. Quit the app 10 minutes into my practice session and maybe it's just because of how crappy the past few weeks have been in general...but I just can't do it anymore.

No music, fitness, or language study as part of this, since I have separate apps to record that, and they're not explicitly part of my career, just serious pursuits.  I do record: art, reading, writing, non-work coding, engineering, imagination/meditation, and game dev.  15 hours last week; let's go for 20 this week.

Times I get weirdly nostalgic for

Nostalgia is not a comfortable emotion. I do not like it. Even so, to me it's a signal that I've lost touch with some aspect of myself. I'm someone who likes staying committed to pursuits and fandoms so that helps with it.  I get weirdly nostalgic for: Friday night nicktoons (SpongeBob, jimmy neutron, and so forth) Sat morning cartoons  2010 fanfiction reviewing 2010-2012 internet in general Playing with toys as a kid That one spring term where my friends and I watched anime a lot and talked about art and japanese and I was working in IT and always ahead on my coding labs  Working at DreamWorks  I also haven't played really any of my backlog games from like 2010ish on, except for some new ones. Now that I've established games as a daily habit, I'm equipped to dive back in. I have always wanted to play Skyrim for example. Now I will finally be able to do it! Tonight. If I can play it alongside my smaller backlog games and balance it all, that is.  Actually, prett...

The mantra!

As a software engineer, I commit myself to the highest standards possible:  Daily review of fundamental computer science and software engineering concepts.  Working on projects, courses, and certifications that interest me outside of work.  Writing clean, secure, and largely (but not entirely) self-documenting code that is thoroughly tested both automatically and manually according to QA standards.  Having a strong understanding of I.T. and computer repair/maintenance, so that I know my machine.  Understanding how a computer works from bottom to top, both hardware and software, including the low-level electrical & computer engineering.  Understanding version control and pipelines.  Understanding and implementing software architecture principles, in order to create scalable, maintainable, and efficient software.  Focusing especially on my focus areas: graphics/simulation/games, cybersecurity, and embedded systems Having a secondary focus on the...
