FanX 2024
When I was a kid, my mom always told me that I wasn’t allowed to buy overly graphic tees because “you’ll look like someone who goes to Comic Con.”
…Anyway, I’m now someone who goes to Comic Con. I've been going to FanX annually for quite a few years now and I kinda want to try for SDCC.
Just a quick recap of FanX today. I lifted for about 15 minutes in the morning and then ran 13.1 miles in Provo Canyon. After that, we boarded the FrontRunner to head to SLC. I did some quick MVP work for all my pursuits on the FrontRunner.
We checked in and then I got some corn dogs from the Fry Me to the Moon food truck. After that, we went to the Terminator panel. I have never seen the Terminator, so I mostly just read some more of Harrow Faire on my Kindle app. I actually finished the 3rd book, Clown, and bought the 4th one, Ringmaster, while we were sitting there. (Not to be confused with the Ringmaster in Carnivile)
Then we browsed some art and I made notes of different artists I was considering coming back to, to grab some merch. Then we went to another panel with some cartoon voice actors. It was fun, but went on too long, and I started to zone out a bit, so I switched to drawing and reading a bit more.
After that, we browsed some more, and that's when I actually bought my artist merch. I got:
- a Sylveon mini plush, an Umbreon carrying an Eevee (both shiny) t-shirt, an Umbreon keychain, and a Sprigatito and Bulbasaur tote bag from one of the Pokemon stands.
- The keychain was designed by Seviyummy which is why I decided to grab it; they're one of my favorite artists. The other art was likely designed by them as well but I am not 100% sure as it was not credited.
- The t-shirt was size Small, which I started getting after this year's intense cut, which I'm almost done with (and totally derailed today), instead of Medium. In this case, I probably should have gotten Medium as I almost ripped the shirt putting it on. But, it looks fantastic and it fits well once I have it on. I like my shirts to be snug.
- a comic book and sea dragon painting from Drak Arts, another one of my favorite artists! I have so much of his art on my walls lol. I've read a lot of his worldbuilding stuff but I am a bit rusty. Too many fictional universes floating around in my brain. I'll get re-acquainted.
- a cute Mr. Pumpkin print from Miss Chibi.
- a summery Genshin print from Savvy Jensen.
It was a great merch drop this year, and I am running out of room on my bedroom walls for all of my art. I don't know how much money I spent, and I will not check.
After that, we went to a Harry Potter panel with the actors who played Ginny Weasley and Lucius Malfoy. They were really fun. Then we did a bit more art browsing, and went to City Creek for dinner. I just had Red Iguana again as usual and a Chik-Fil-A shake. My brother drove us back home.
It was a lot of fun. Sometimes I think I should get the 3-day pass, maybe when I get a position with better PTO. Even when I leave Utah, I'll still return for FanX. And in a few years, or maybe more but eventually, I will be good enough to have my own artist booth.
Mark my words. It’ll happen. And I’ll have my books there too.
I’m usually better than this at taking photos. :p But with FanX it’s all fast paced and there isn’t a lot of time to stop and smell the roses.
Until next year! 🤙
