new VR slide at Splash Summit
Sent out to their email list, it seems. NGL, this should be fun, but I think it won't be as impressive as it sounds, and here's why.
- Yes, VR is awesome. I have a MetaQuest. I play on it regularly. I won't dispute that. And waterproof VR? Excellent! It should be FUN, yes.
- BUT they aren't building a new slide -- they're just putting it on Mudslide Gorge.
- This is arguably the second most popular slide in the entire park, directly after Vortex.
- So what is that going to do to the already-long lines? Bloat them? Artificially slow loading? (Yes. yes it will.)
- Also, there is already a TON of congestion in the steps leading up to Mudslide and the Storm Slides. There is also a super sketchy part of the stairs there that's rotting so badly that I expect someone to fall through at some point.
- Who builds a slide tower out of WOOD? WHAT?
- And it's an extra fee, but you don't HAVE to pay it, because you can just go on it normally without a headset.
- This will still bloat the lines.
- They had better sanitize those headsets as promised. With it being teens, I figure it'll be inconsistent and you may want to bring your own wipes. I will never forget that stupid parainfluenza I got from 2024 and I am not wanting a repeat of that. I don't like surprises.
- Passholder since 2020 and STILL not a whit of Splash Summit merch. All they sell in terms of souvenirs is overpriced sunglasses and generic hats.
The other possibility is it will go the way of New Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain; i.e., the VR won't last.
I almost dropped my headset on the lift hill AND a bunch of kids behind us were going "Why is there a LOW POLY SANTA?!" Because we got the holiday version. Eyup. There was indeed a low-poly Santa and the art was shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite. :D
Anyway, that's one of my usernames now. LowPolySanta. Because I love theme parks, and I love games. Perfect intersection lol.
So, VR slide? Cool, I guess, but I'm skeptical. I was REALLY hoping they'd build a new slide for it. There's no more room in that rotting slide tower with Free Fall, but that picnic area? Very underused. I feel like you could fit another tower over there. I almost never see anyone in the grassy area near the rink entrance, other than on the actual picnic tables.
And there's also the rumor that they might try and relocate to near Slate Canyon, which would be even cooler.
I wonder if they will put purchasing for this experience down by tube rentals or something, and give you a special wristband or some other differentiator. It doesn't really make sense to bring any valuables on that slide tower and have the decision be made at the loading area. There's a ton of water dripping from up above and you end up getting pretty wet before you are even on a slide.
Black Friday sales are coming today, regardless. Season pass renewal is on deck for this afternoon or weekend! And I am a lifetime member! Memorial Day Weekend is in 189 days, so time to get as much accomplished towards our goals and dreams as possible until it hits. And when it does, keep going, but enjoy the sunshine and warmth.
(And then MOVE OUT of here lol.)
