Ravings of an Undead Cheese Minion

I am not handy. I enjoy working with technology, and I can build computers (and thoroughly have fun doing so). And I love art and drawing, of course. However, I do not like working with tools or hands-on stuff as much. I love science, but I hated dissecting things in biology. It was so gross. Similarly, I didn't like chemistry experiments because I didn't want to accidentally stain my clothes or temporarily blind myself (though I did, in fact, love physics experiments — no real danger other than I guess powerful magnets). I did not like woodshop class as I was paranoid the whole time about getting my finger cut off. Etc. I can replace a headlight, but I will hate it, and I absolutely cannot change a car tire, nor do I want to invest the time in learning that when I could be doing math instead. Just call AAA. I am just not super hands-on.  However, I have found that when I apply my debugging and troubleshooting skills to handy things, sometimes good stuff happens. I was able to ...

It's vent time again! Look at all those partly cloudy days in the forecast, and the thunderstorms as well... This was not how last summer was, barring a few days here or there. I can't find my old screenshots, but I remember looking and seeing days of nothing but sunny skies.  I'm really starting to get tired of the Utah weather. Winter = cold, dark, cloudy, snowy, depressing. Autumn = a few pretty sunny days at the very beginning, but ultimately devolving into endless fog, RAIN, clouds, and gloom. Spring = some beautiful days interspersed with RAIN and CLOUDS and then even more rain and more clouds.  The last few summers have been beautiful . I can only think of 2 summer thunderstorms that happened in 2020. They were both in July. One of them caused me to get rained on during a carnival trip, and the other screwed up my Cowabunga Bay trip (though I ended up being able to go a few weeks later). But the rest of the time was beautiful, hot, sunny weather. Gorgeous blue skies ...

I am one of those people who starts Christmas on November 1st. You know the type. And I start thinking about Halloween after the second week of September.  But wow, do I hate back to school commercials! I just got the first one in my email inbox, from Microsoft. Ugh.  I’m 28 (ugh) but you get the idea. And no, it’s not because I dislike school. If I disliked it I wouldn’t have gone for the MS! It’s because summer doesn’t end until mid-September and I don’t like being bombarded with SUMMER IS ENDING, YOU WILL SOON HAVE TO WEAR PANTS AGAIN when it’s mid-July and summer is most certainly not even close to ending.  It sucks especially because of how gray and depressing it’s been. Why is this 2021 summer in Utah so dang cloudy?! I didn’t sign up for this. It’s like this summer is cursed. I just want SUN. 

...because it KEEPS RAINING, dang it. All these stupid clouds. I hate the rain, and clouds too (light cumulus clouds are fine; it's fun to see the shapes in them). THIS IS NOT A DROUGHT. It was NOT this cloudy and rainy last summer. At least it gets sunny after a while.  Thank you for your time. 

I hate the winter Can't stand the cold... But when the heat comes, something takes a hold.  It's important to record the fun things you've done, especially during your favorite time of the year. Thus, here is a recounting of how I've spent the summer so far.  The Friday before Memorial Day was a company holiday, so I had the day off. I went to the Provo Recreation Center's outdoor water slides in order to celebrate the beginning of the season. On Saturday, I went to Lagoon (though it was super crowded so I didn't ride much) for a few hours, then headed over to Cherry Hill, which was much less crowded and consequently quite refreshing. That night, we watched A Quiet Place Part 2. On Sunday, I did my traditional afternoon walk around Riverwoods, and Monday was a wild card -- a group of us ended up going to Park City where I got my 82nd coaster credit on the Mountain Coaster.  As of late, it's been GLORIOUSLY hot. This post brought to you by Running and Walking at the Park Gang.  It should be a common, well-known fact that dogs should only be allowed off-leash at dog parks, or in private residences. This is in accordance with leash laws. Public parks are PEOPLE parks, not dog parks. Of course you can bring you dog to a regular park, but it NEEDS to be kept on a leash. Check this out for the city of Orem:  https://orem.org/animal-control/ It is worse running in the neighborhood: not only will you still encounter off-leash dogs, but they will also be territorial. The only place to avoid this is on bike paths.  I do 80% or so of my running on grass, due to my knees, while the other 20% or so is fine on pavement (asphalt only, no concrete). So I have to run at the park. Besides, I like visiting cool parks, and I have no problem seeing leashed dogs.  But when your dog is running off leash in the middle of the park — which is against the leash laws in our area — it screws up my enti...

I love my apartment complex. It also has a pretty decent pool. It is very aesthetic and I love the colors. While unemployed last summer, I swam almost every morning in that pool at around 9-9:15 AM. Sometimes I would work out, other times simply float and be a kid again.  However, there are two problems with this pool. One, it doesn't open until 9 AM every morning, which is when I need to start working now that I have an internship. And two, it is very small.  And so whenever I try to go swimming there, there are always parents and kids, or random groups of teenagers or college kids, swimming. I can't go to the one lap lane to work out, because there's no dividing line for it, so the kids are just playing in it. Even though it's a pool for everyone in the complex, it feels SUPER AWKWARD to go over there, whether it be families with kids or groups of college students, when all I want to do is go for a quick swim.
