Saturday song quote

You see, I'm tired of trying to justify

Every decision that I make.

~ Sekai No Owari, ANTI-HERO

-------------------

Hell yeah. This.

You don't have to explain yourself to anyone.

"Why aren't you married yet?" "Why don't you have kids yet?" "Why don't you have a house yet?" "Why are you in a grad program when you don't need it for computer science?" "Why do you have x hobby?" "Why do you have too many hobbies?" "Why are you studying animation?" "Why do you still play music when you have other hobbies?" "Why do you go to theme parks alone?" "Why do you do stuff that I think is weird?" I don't know, but why don't you mind your own freaking business?!

Why this, why that, why do you wear gray socks, why do you blow your nose, why do you use that particular brand of soap, AUGH! People always do this. They're all the same, and it drives me insane. It's always a "why" for everything if you're not mindlessly copying their milquetoast version of what they think reality and life should constitute.

Why, you ask? Because I do whatever the hell I want. I don't owe further explanation to anyone. Not one bit of it.

All of that BS is basically code for you are living in a way that makes me uncomfortable, and threatens my vision of what reality should be. And as a result, I will bother you about it until you start conforming to what I think you should be doing, and the carbon-copied person I think you should be.

If you do this, you will end up becoming your local version of the BYU Bro, who was born in Utah, served in Argentina (he was AP btw), got married to some 19-year-old girl he only knew for 3 weeks (and only a month after coming home, because eternal marriage is just another checklist item to him), majors in business management with a minor in Spanish, has kids before he's even graduated, and who likes watching football and basketball. He eats nothing but vanilla ice cream and J-Dawgz. He feels no emotions, other than happiness. His other hobbies include absolutely-freaking-nothing because he has no personality.

Ok, J-Dawgz is really good though, I'll give it that much. And I've met many amazing people who did stuff like this, but they were unique and passionate and alive in their own way. I'm not attacking any specific person; most of the people I've met at BYU and elsewhere have been wonderful, even if I don't understand them. What I'm attacking is an archetype.

...and everyone thinks that everything is OK,
if they just obey

Ignore the pressure to carbon-copy your life. Ignore it, ignore it, IGNORE IT. Do what you want. You don't need to justify every single thing that you do. You don't even need to come close. Life is not black and white, and what you've been taught about the world isn't necessarily true, though it can be. Believe in that which exists beyond what can be immediately perceived. Believe in what your heart knows in its very depths to be true. And above all: Do what feels right to you. Do what makes your heart and soul burn.

Be the anti-hero.
