OK let's do some hiking

I always forget that hiking is one of my hobbies and then I randomly do like 21 miles in the grand canyon.

Advantages to being a runner, I guess.

Arguably the most intense hiking/running blended day I did was in the Tetons. We did a 10-mile run on the bike path followed by 10 miles of hiking in Cascade Canyon. There is a photo somewhere of me passed out on the futon after showering that night.

I have also done a 17-miler day followed by a 7-mile hike. That actually might have been worse because I was injured for the next week. NOT repeating that.

I like to think that I am an LOL SUPER ELON MUSK HARDCORE GAMER with everything that I do, but actually, I guess I do have some casual/do-it-when-I-feel-like-it hobbies. Like hiking or standup paddleboarding.

So if we do Lake Blanche on Saturday, I'll have to do something like this (6.4 mile hike but pretty wicked terrain):

  • 4 AM -- Wake up, study
  • 4:30 AM or 4:45 AM -- Lift
  • 5:15 AM -- Provo Canyon drive
  • 5:30 AM Run -- 6 miles instead of 16. I should be out of the canyon before the first Utah Valley racers come out of the canyon (not doing that particular race this year, saving energy for the Timp half)
  • 6:30 AM -- go back home
  • 6:45 AM -- get ready
  • 7:30 AM -- I guess do a short writing/art session? hmm.
  • 8 AM -- we go to the trailhead
  • Afterwards: borgars and splash summit doesn't close till 8, followed by further personal work and games @eod.

That means though that I'll have to pick up some new trail runners and break them in, stat. Or just wear my Brooks that have been in rotation since the Obama administration. And I am also going to need snacks. And I need to get a bit more creative work done before we leave...
