Facebook removing key info about yourself tomorrow.

They will be removing

  • Religion
  • Sexual orientation
  • Political views
In an effort to make the platform "simpler", which makes zero sense, because it's just three data fields. Doesn't sound complicated to me.

Then again, it's not necessarily a bad thing, either. It releases a bit of baggage. I left social conservatism years ago, and I will not be returning. But I am under no obligation to advertise that.

I guess what I'm more frustrated about is the larger trend that this points to. There are no good social media platforms. The only one I like is Reddit. They've gotten too simplified, and you can't really get to know people. I hate the short bios that are commonplace nowadays. As a quiet person wanting to be heard, I want to write a longer bio where I can really express who I am, as an individual. I also hate the focus on videos. As someone who listens to music almost 24/7, I don't want to watch videos, because I'll have to pause my music.

I guess maybe I just want a decentralized blog system with social aspects. Kind of like what LiveJournal tried to be. Until it got hijacked by Russian spambots. Because in Soviet Russia, the journal writes YOU. Or something.

Elon jacked up Twitter. Discord is like showing up to a party and constantly being ignored and talked over. Facebook is fine, but it's dying and lacks privacy. Instagram is boring as hell. TikTok is not something I can get hooked on, due to the focus on videos, so I don't have an account. Forums are dead. DeviantArt went weird and low-quality and all the art I've posted on it sucks anyway, with the exception of my bouncy ball animation which got a bunch of favorites. Oh and there's a bunch of profiles that are basically OnlyFans ads, and there's too much AI art. (I hate AI art, though I find neural networks quite interesting, and am registered with DALLE-2. The science is extremely interesting; the artistic and societal implications are downright horrifying.) ArtStation is intimidating. Tumblr is clunky and its UI sucks. MouseWait became a slightly worse Disney-themed Instagram. I'm still trying to find a social media home, but I do like Reddit. Guess I'll just keep hanging out with the neckbeards over there. A few people from the Artist Lounge subreddit were talking about making a new art forum...we will see if it actually happens.

This is probably just a sign that I need to stop caring about the internet and just focus on my craft. But it sucks because the internet has always been a huge part of my life. I'll be noticed more, I think, when my art starts becoming amazing. This will take a lot of grinding and time management, and probably won't happen until after my MS is complete. To be honest, if you can code well, nobody is going to care, because half the internet is devs anyway. If you can write well, people might care, but I am not currently able to fit fanfiction writing into my schedule, except for maybe on the odd Saturday, and I'm not posting original fiction because I want to publish it. If you're good at art, though, you pop right away. Your profile picture, your gallery, etc., it all pops. Besides, I love digital art and getting lost in creating virtual worlds, even if what I make isn't at the level I want it to be at. Yet.

I want to paint and 3D model beautiful, fantastical, whimsical things, places, creatures, and people. I want to paint fountains filled with koi and baby dragons, designs of spaceships hurtling through galaxies, and couples standing in gazebos while gazing into a brilliant starry sky.

I legit think I'm just fueled by spite at this point. I want to excel at my six main fields: art, writing, coding and computers, theme park design, music, and fitness. A lot of people online just screw around all day and I don't want that. On that note, got to study for a bit then launch into work. I'm pretty burned out with homework, but if I play my cards right, after April I'll never have to do it again. I'll be able to spend all my free time however I wish. And wow do I have ideas.
