your reminder that "for" is a social construct

but that's "FOR" little kids but that's "FOR" girls but that's "FOR" kids and families not you, you adult who happens to not have children! "for" is a marketing term it doesn't mean anything big middle finger to anyone who judges people's hobbies because they are not in the arbitrary, socioculturally defined, tribally-approved categories that some random people made up  we are a bunch of mildly intelligent primates walking around on a stupid rock and we are all going to die  so do whatever you want.

Sequence of study tasks, revised

MORNING FIRST THING: Egypt, dinosaurs, other topics (5 minutes)  MORNING RIGHT AFTER THAT: coast block (engineering and math) (20-40 minutes) MID MORNING: Lift and run LATE MORNING BEFORE WORK: cybersecurity and IT LATE MORNING DURING BREAK: languages LUNCH: music AFTER WORK (4ish): Art studies/projects AFTER ART (4:45ish): Reading fiction (with cleaning) and writing AFTER DINNER: Meditation and unwinding **Note: Writing needs a good chunk of time, so these blocks may need to be shortened somewhat** EARLY EVENING (5:45ish): Coding studies/projects : Pure technical MID EVENING (6:30ish): Computer Graphics and Tech Art studies/projects LATE EVENING (7:30ish): Games and game development  SUPER LATE MAN (8:15ish): Physical therapy, watch anime, get ready for bed, read engineering/CS/math books and fall asleep.

all right, here's the plan. (art and writing huge improvement for the next year and beyond)

tl;dr I will be doing at least 30 minutes of writing and 30 minutes of art a day , with an end goal of getting to 75/45. Then, once that's mastered, I'll crank up game development, music, and coding.  For the past 7 months, I have been consistent at the 2-minute rule for all my sprints. But I'm not pushing past that consistently. The 2-minute rule from Atomic Habits is great, and it's a good foundation for success. But it doesn't publish books or graphic novels.  So I am going to push forward with art and writing, cranking both of them up. I need to do more, but it's just going to have to fit into whatever time is left over from these -- 30-minute minimum, 75/45 end goal.  I can't cut these blocks short anymore. It's going to drive me insane. I'll never get anywhere.  Today I only drew for 10 minutes and wrote for 10 minutes. That barely pushes past warmups. It's fine, but it's not enough. I'm not writing to unwind or relax. I'm writi...

NERFED: Ron Last Park and Wilkerson Farm :( Thanks, Utah.

Ron Last Park is gone. Replaced by townhomes. Now, I do rent an apartment, so I can't automatically hate townhomes, but this is garbage. It was a peaceful park at the end of Riverwoods. I loved to sit there in the warm seasons and draw in my sketchbook. There was a little path with a bench in the shade.  Now there's a loud robot that yells YOU ARE TRESPASSING AND BEING RECORDED in a very threatening voice if you venture too far along the supposedly public bike path that goes through the area.  Lovely.  Maybe I'm just one of those "NIMBYs" but I don't think my apartment complex, right off the interstate with cars going all night, took over any green spaces...  It looks like Wilkerson Farm is nerfed too -- rezoned for more housing. Stay classy, Utah. If I'm still here, I will be voting against every single representative who voted to nerf it. I don't care if it was inevitable or not. You reap what you sow, and I do not forgive easily.  We'll see if C...

This cracked me up. It's like  Pokemopolis  but for The Magic School Bus.  Chasmosaurs is a great site and I think I might be ordering one of their paleoart shirts soon, in moisture wicking form for workouts.

When I say I am neurodivergent instead of just adhd it is mostly because

I have an ADHD diagnosis from college but have never been evaluated for ASD. But...there are signs. There always have been, ever since I first read about Asperger's as a kid and thought wait, that's kinda like me, why did no one ever get me evaluated for that? You know, when you're trying to play with the other kids but it's confusing and you don't know how and there's this little voice that goes something is wrong here... I was planning on only writing until 9:30 or 9:45 PM because I need to stick to a somewhat consistent schedule. Even if Saturday is my late night and I had half a Monster a little bit too late in the morning (10 AM or so) Then suddenly it was 10 PM. I had been listening to the same 3 horsegiirl songs in a row while writing furiously and engaging in...repetitive rocking and headbanging motions. I was completely impervious to all external reality for this period of time and was only vaguely cognizant of what my body was doing. Eeyup.  One day I ...

How crowded is this gonna be 😬

Not sure yet if I'll get on the steampunk rides when I arrive tomorrow or just go straight to the water park. I'll get on them at some point regardless.  And this is why Lagoon is such a good park. It's sad they're taking out Cliffhanger but they clearly have something cool planned. Definitely better than whatever tf Zimmerman is doing with Cedar Flags. (Though the all-parks gold pass is fantastic)

lost productivity: must regain

Monday and Tuesday are still the worst days of my week for productivity. Sunday night, I'm either calling home or having to work, meaning that I'm up later than I want to be. This screws up Monday, usually meaning (but not always) that I have to work out both before and after work. With Tuesday, I have to drive 40 minutes one-way into the office, and some days (like today) no one on my team is even there, making the wasted time from the commute largely pointless. This means, once again, that I have to double-work-out.  If I could work at 9 AM instead of 8 AM, I would be fine. But, I have to work at 8 AM.  By Wednesday, I'm usually back on track, but this is stressing me out. I can't keep having this happen anymore. Trying to find a fully remote job with a 9 AM start and no weekends right now that will actually interview me  is like trying to find the hay in the needlestack .  I don't know what to do. Maybe a makeup session later in the week.

summer people: we won

Or so it feels at the end of every long, dragged-out winter here. I am working to build a better life for myself and move.  But this should be the last cold day, I think. So after today, we are done. If all goes according to plan -- and that's a big IF every year, but the odds ARE in our favor -- I could have a Memorial Day weekend that looks something like this: Friday after work Leave a little early (work a little late on Thursday) to leave for Provo Recreation Center At Provo Rec, do a brief workout, then: OUTDOOR SLIDES!  After the slides, order some pizza via DoorDash.  Go home, eat the pizza.  Have a nice relaxing Friday night.  Saturday Lifting Running: Long Run Lagoon and Lagoon-a-beach: Ride the 2 new District rides and otherwise do the water park  Walk the Lagoon trail  Cherry Hill Go home to work on goals  Hammock reading / park walk Dinner -- go out to eat Games  Sunday Sleep in, lucid dreaming  Park walks  Work on goals...

Browns Amusements for Orem Summerfest 2025

They used Browns last year too. It's the best carnival they've used IMO. Their rides are clean, and distinctly un-ghetto.  Star Trooper, Viper, and Yo Yo are enough to make the trip worth it, but overall this show is so unfriendly towards solo riders that a wristband is barely even worth the price. I’m not sure if I’ll get one this year or not.  You can’t even ride the Rock o Plane solo even though Lagoon lets you ride theirs alone.  And don’t expect Freak Out to even be there. There’s no way they’re going to fit that giant thing into City Center Park.  I’m excited though. Oremfest is always a lot of fun. Swimming, slides, rides, parks, and good food. I saw rumors of a Flaming Hot Cheetos corn dog…👀👀👀

Orem residents: we need to save Wilkerson Farm

Already sent them the following: (Subject) Disagreeing with decision (Body) I live in Orem and I do not agree with your decision to approve the rezone for housing.  This decision does not represent me or my interests as a citizen of Orem.

because "your generation doesn't want to work and doesn't understand the grind"

at least according to my dad So Here is how my normal days go 4:20 AM wake up, first technical block: check theme park news, theme park blogging, study mathematics, PLCs, and embedded systems -- while getting ready for the gym 5:00 AM weight lifting  6:10 AM running (7 miles)  mid morning: study IT/cybersecurity, work on labs and certifications while getting ready for work  [8 hours] WORK  during lunch: practice musical instruments and walk 1 mile during designated breaks: study languages, walk 1 mile  after work: immediately launch into computer science studies and software engineering projects for at least 30 minutes ART: both 2D and 3D, working on my studies and projects, target is 1.25 hours WRITING: read and write, goal of 400-600 words cleaning and other chores meditation, outdoors GAMES: unwind with some games, then work on game development  Plan for the next day, set goals, etc., get ready for bed.  Study electrical engineering and control syst...

In which we take our childhood passions and interests into adulthood

Who was I as a kid? Well, I don't remember too much about the nitty-gritty details of it all. But I know I loved theme parks, dinosaurs, Pokemon, and space.  Obviously, all these interests still remain and are central to my personality. This is satisfying to me, as I largely kept my childhood promise to myself of "never growing up". Though that term is loaded nowadays.  Another thing I loved was playing with toys all day. I didn't become outdoorsy until high school. But I remember I loved to build things with Legos, Tinkertoys, and Lincoln Logs. I also crafted elaborate marblecoasters and Thomas the Tank Engine sets. We still have our classic wooden sets, though thankfully we never owned the sketchy ones with lead paint. Hot Wheels (and the associated ripoff brands) were also super fun and you'd better believe I still have a bunch of them.  I have occasionally tried playing with toys just like I did as a kid, although without anyone else there. Personally, I exper...

I love looking at it. I would love to step into this world, and maybe stay there forever.

Farmington Half Marathon: Spain, with a silent S.

Image
"Let's do the Farmington Half!" I said to myself one day. "It will just be like RunDisney, but at Lagoon!"  Then I got metatarsalgia and had to temporarily switch from running to air biking. Race day arrived and I just figured I would have to see what happened.  The following things happened: 1. I ate three (3) Honey Stinger waffles at about 5:15 AM that morning, with the race starting at 7:50 AM, in addition to three (3) packets of Crystal Light Energy (180mg caffeine). 3 Honey Stinger waffles only 2.5 hours before a race, and 2 hours before warmup, is too many Honey Stinger waffles. So I spent the whole race feeling like I was going to puke, and the epic week of ab work I had done only added to this. (Hey, it's almost water park season and I am the poster child of insecure-vanity)  1a) No injury pain though! That didn't come back until Sunday.  2. A bunch of fast runners caught up to me maybe 0.3 miles into the Lagoon Trail section of the course, near ...

Wrong, Mr. Young.

Image
This excerpt from Scott Young's email list contains a falsehood (or two or three):  1. No.  2. I hate how the world doesn't value human expression, only what can rake in the most $$$.  As always, I am not strictly anti-AI; we just used it in a pair programming session this morning at work. I am a ChatGPT, Copilot, and Claude user. However, regardless of whether or not these skills that Scott mentions  are going to be devalued  by sociopathic business bros, that doesn't change the fact that you need  basic skills in those areas if you are going to become advanced, because that's how getting better works. Yes, ChatGPT can write me some Excel macros, but if I am going to code an Excel competitor, I had damn well better know how macros work.  Also, vibe coders need to go away. I thought that was a meme that nobody actually took seriously, but I was wrong. You people don't belong in any tech major. Yes, I am going to gatekeep that until I'm dead in the grou...
