The Pyramid of Focus
I am constantly trying to push my life towards better levels a) organization, and b) deep work. I'm not very good at it yet, but I am trying. :P
Obvious areas of focus such as church, work, and school don't count towards this. And it's less of a pyramid and more of just an abstract triad.
The "Holy Trinity", prioritized in no particular order:
1) Computing, and understanding each piece of how a computer works fundamentally. This includes computer science, software engineering, math, physics, information technology, computer graphics, PLCs, and computer/electrical engineering.
2) Art. This encompasses drawing, design, digital painting, and 3D work: from 3D skills like you do in CSANM 150 to learning VFX in Houdini.
3) Writing. Primarily speculative fiction, with poetry and fanfiction as a side thing -- and lots of reading. I am trying to push through and finish draft 1 of Carnivile because wow, I've been writing it since January 2019. I need to move forward!
Below the holy trinity are the supporting pillars:
1) Music: Clarinet, piano, voice (on hold until church choirs resume), maybe a little bit of theory.
2) Fitness: Running, weightlifting, swimming, hiking. Probably should eat clean but I must admit, I am terrible at that.
3) Theme park and rollercoaster design, including visiting theme parks, water parks, zoos, aquariums and the like as a guest. The only reason why this isn't higher is that my other goals should aim on facilitating that.
4) Media consumption: This includes watching movies and TV shows, gaming, reading books/fanfics/webcomics, and participating in the excellent world of the internet. I don't do this as much as I should.
5) Building up imagination: just closing my eyes and exploring different worlds, interacting with different characters, and the like. Lucid dreaming falls under this.
And then there's 6) learning languages. I have thought about penning an ancient language used by the wolves in the northern reaches of my home planet. Furthermore, I was learning Spanish for a while, and am considering trying to do this again. Right now the Ketchup Song is currently playing in my head, so there's that. I think Japanese would be cool, too, though probably not until finishing Spanish. But, it's hard to fit this one in, so I haven't decided yet if, for example, I'm going to go for the Spanish fluency cert or something. It would require a lot of work, and I am sinking a lot more time into getting at least competent with the Holy Trinity, so who knows how well that will go.
The other problem is that I don't have any professional goals that require me knowing Spanish...But, I am loath to give up on things.
Anyway, guess it's time to try sinking time into all of these again. Incidentally, this is why I really need (for the long-term anyway) a company that enforces 40 hours a week and no more. This is rather difficult these days.
