Fall 2021 Saga

ETERNISUMMER

As summer fades into fall on the northern hemisphere of the planet Rogza, alien messages are being transmitted from an unknown source. They are written in a hieroglyphic language and appear inscribed on chunks of strange material that appear in random locations throughout the inhabited half of the planet. This material glows and is strangely calming to the touch, yet toxicity analyses have been wildly inconsistent. The scientists at Xandre Laboratories have been at the forefront of these messages, trying to ascertain their meaning. Are they benevolent or are they threatening?

Of course, aliens aren't unusual at all in the realm of Alexandria, with interplanetary communication and travel having been established for millennia. But these inscriptions are not from any language, planet, or culture whose existence has been documented in our intergalactic data center. They could be from an undiscovered world. Or an alternate Reality.

Or from the world of demons.

Regardless, mysterious times call for unconventional measures. Our scientists have contacted other organizations from other planets in our solar system for assistance, including Zarrk, a war-torn planet with which Rogza has had a long-standing history of conflict. We must pool our resources and understand what these messages mean. For they could be benign -- or they could represent a threat.

Eternisummer Gardens is a project, built by the Gardener Elise. It consists of a beautiful, warm coastline and an expansive, peaceful mixed deciduous-coniferous forest, filled with flowers, in which summer never ends. Her magic enchants the sun to always shine brightly, the night sky to always be filled with stars, and the flowers to never close. While Elise knows nothing of the origin of these strange alien messages, she believes she can help us, being an expert in intergalactic languages.

And yet, as she has begun to build her garden, the messages have become more hostile. Anxiety, instead of calm, abounds now among those who read them, and one witch became violently ill while trying to deliver them to our laboratory. When spending time in the garden, we have found that some trees have been struck by dying leaves. While correlation doesn't imply causation, we are beginning to fear that whatever is contacting us is trying to destroy Eternisummer. But, we don't have enough evidence to conclude that yet for sure. We are, however, starting to see odd connections between computer graphics algorithms and the hieroglyphs that these aliens are sending us.

We have finished the end of our Jungle Summer Nights festival, and officially begun the fall season. Eternisummer and the tropical countries in the Southern Sea may never experience autumn, but we do here in Mountain Evening. So in between our foliage expeditions, our Halloween festivals, and our ghost hunts (and visits to see Allie, the ghost that lives in an abandoned home just a few blocks down), plus our eventual Christmas prep, emotion ball practice, roller coaster riding, and exploration of the frontiers of the frozen north, we will help Elise build this land of eternal summer, and defend and protect all that it stands for. We do have reason to fear that the aliens will come to destroy what we have built. But the darkness and cold of winter will always be destroyed by the light and warmth of summer. And this time, we'll make sure our summer never truly ends.
