Markers to be "pretty dang good" at what you do

It's about systems, not goals, but we still want to use goals as a looser ballpark, i.e. "I will get there eventually".

We might not be able to be the best at everything, but we sure can be pretty dang good at a decent smattering of things we're passionate about

Anything in parentheses is mostly just "stay consistent for now, worry about markers later"

RUNNING

  • Boston qualifying time. I'd try to run at least 2:45 downhill. 2:50 flat
    • This would probably be like...70mpw base for a few years
    • I may need to crank this up because the field keeps getting more aggressive.

LIFTING

  • 8-10% body fat at....oh...155 lb.? It's hard to say what's realistic. But definitely I could have more mass than my current weight while still getting faster.
    • I'd like to lift for at least 60 minutes, 5-6x/week.

ENGINEERING

  • Completing Paul Lynn's PLC/SCADA sequence.
  • Reading all of Serway/Jewett: Intro Physics with Modern Physics
  • CAD certification.
  • Reviewing all of math and physics on Khan Academy.
  • (Long-term) Susan Rigetti's math and physics tracks.

(Languages)

  • I guess the marker here is just...Fluency :')

SECURITY

  • Achieving CompTIA trifecta plus CC2
  • Plus a networking cert
  • And an advanced security cert
  • Completing learning paths on TryHackMe/HackTheBox, Bandit Wargames
  • Performing well in CTFs
  • Homelabbing, PC building for the IT side
  • Working through cryptography books.

MUSIC

  • Getting accepted into a band that requires an audition
  • Playing piano and singing at the same time (or other non-wind instrument of choice, guitar, etc.)
  • Creating your own music

ART

  • Taking comms
  • Establishing a webcomic/VN/game etc. and building a following
  • Completing challenges regularly (Drawtober, Loish challenges, Sakuga challenges)
  • Building a portfolio

WRITING

  • Publishing novels
  • Publishing poems
  • Writing a novel per year
  • Writing a poem per week
  • Reading a book a week
  • Fanfiction awards

(Lucid Dreaming)

  • If you can do it nightly or even weekly, that's really freaking good
  • Now imagine being able to do something like persistent realms...

PROGRAMMING

  • Potentially, being able to solve the neetcode 150
  • contributing regularly to open source
  • releasing your own apps
  • fully understanding the core of computer science and software engineering
  • completing advent of code each year

GRAPHICS

  • Coding standard graphics algorithms such as the stuff from the Graphics CodeX, Scratchapixel, Math for Technical Artists, and Real-Time Rendering
  • Publishing papers and research; implementing algorithms from papers
  • In 3D art, making assets in Blender/Maya for people to use
  • Building a great demo reel

GAMES

  • releasing them as an indie developer
  • playing a wide variety, and doing well in at least one that is competitive (markers TBD).
  • playing a sandbox game regularly (or multiple)
  • Completing an annual challenge like 12in12 while keeping up to date on newer releases.
