Truett Hanes isn't really hybrid

Not anymore, anyway.

You can't be hybrid if you skip lifting completely during a marathon block. That doesn't even make sense if you're a pure runner who doesn't care about muscle. Wtf?

For me, the whole reason why I started following him is because holy crap, this guy is jacked AND fast and clearly balances running and lifting. Just like me.

Sure, 2:25 is faster by far than I'll probably ever run (my goal is to get to 2:45). It's extremely impressive. And the people whining about St. George being downhill are missing the point. It's a beautiful course and it isn't easy. I'll run it every year I can.

But I didn't realize he

  • Stopped lifting to get the pull-up WR
  • Stopped lifting when doing 100mpw for St George
  • Is planning to continue NOT lifting, drop down another 25 lbs to around MY WEIGHT (!!! I'm 131 lb lol)
  • And apparently break the marathon WR.
Sorry but that's not hybrid. Cam Hanes is hybrid. So is Nick Bare. And Goggins. I don't care if they're on steroids or not. My goal is to run 2:45 while gaining muscle (and yes, some weight) and getting jacked. And while using no steroids obviously. Truett is officially off the hybrid train in my book.

You know who thinks you're jacked at my weight/muscle mass? Non-lifters, and only when you're shirtless. Yes, they may steal glances at you at the beach or water park, but you won't be on the cover of any romance novels either. When you have a shirt on, people will start concern trolling you and be like "omg eat a hamburger" unless you wear super tight S/XS shirts.

I'm balancing running and lifting, I play 2 instruments and sing, I am writing novels, trying to crank my art up to pro level, trying to master computer science, developing and playing games, and learning theme park engineering. I sleep 7-9 hours a night. I work on every pursuit daily, no exceptions except for sickness. And I WORK FULL TIME. I'm not a master of ANY of this. But I WILL be.

So I see these people who get to work out full time and dude...you're still going to skip lifting? Seriously?

The whole point is to refuse to choose. Keep lifting even when it's inconvenient. Be equally a runner and a bodybuilder. Preserve as much muscle as you can. Skipping lifting is just insane work. No thanks. Respect to his insane speed, and I'm not going to unfollow, but I'm no longer interested in watching. Nick Bare all the way.
