9:30 am Primordial entrance?
So it looks like Lagoon will let you into the Primordial queue at 9:30 or 9:45 AM. Found this tip on the comments of TheXProject on YouTube.
WELP
I have not been getting there that early.
And with my running group not usually meeting before 5:30 AM, well, it may not happen. But, maybe I'll try it this weekend; we will see.
I did some calculations...
If I
- Woke up to do math and engineering studies....idk, maybe at like 3:30 AM
- Started lifting at 4:05 AM
- Finished lifting at 4:50 AM to drive to the park
- Started running at 5:05 AM, I could be done by 7:35 AM assuming a 16-miler
- And then I would have 10-15 minutes for my cooldown walk. I would need to eat breakfast while I walked.
- Getting me back to the apartment by 8 AM
- And if I showered by 8:25 AM and immediately left, then I could probably get to the entrance of Lagoon by 9:15 AM
- So then I would get to Primordial by 9:30 AM.
Not gonna lie; that would mean that I'd have to leave writing group early on Friday nights as well as run half of my 16-miler up the canyon in relative darkness (including the Big Springs canyon which is pretty isolated) with civil twilight only beginning towards the turnaround...
I'm not sure I'm going to be able to pull that off. :P Oh, don't get me wrong, I'd wake up that early, but I absolutely hate how sketchy canyon running is at 5 AM, and running in town is boring AF after doing it all winter. At least once summer hits I'll be prioritizing LAB anyway so all this hoopla won't be necessary.
I just thought of one other thing, though.
I could consider showering at the Lagoon campground, which would mean I could go straight from Riverwoods to Lagoon and shower there.
BUT
1. That's disgusting. I'd be sitting there all sweaty in the car for 50 minutes. Ew.
2. I'm not sure how much time it would really save me -- I'd have to park at Ezra T. Clark Park, walk/jog over there, deal with all the annoyances of showering with water shoes on and such, walk back to Clark Park, and THEN still get to the entrance by 9:15 AM.
It might be better to try this on a day where we go to Big Cottonwood for a run. This would actually work decently as our Big Cottonwood runs usually start wicked early.
Another option is to just do my long run on the Lagoon Trail and then shower at the campground. However, that trail is like 3.8 miles round trip...So...It's going to be really annoying to do a 16-er there. I'd have to figure out if it connects to any other bike paths.
The final option...on July 4th I don't have work and I will only be running 7-8 miles, so I could probably make it to Primordial right on time.
